How the default posting times are chosen for your schedule

When you connect a social account to Buffer, some default posting times will be added to your posting schedule. The times chosen are semi-random and not based on your own engagement data. In short, Buffer will pick random times during a normal working day and the number of times chosen will depend on the type of social account you've connected.
We like to have some posting times chosen already, so that users are not presented with an empty schedule. With this in mind, we would recommend updating your posting schedule based on your own testing and data. You can find  guidance on choosing posting times here and a  guide to configuring your schedule here.
Here's a full run down of the posting times we'll choose:
  • Twitter: We'll typically choose four posting times, one between 8am and 10am, another between 12pm and 2pm, another between 4pm and 6pm and another between 8pm and 10pm.
  • Facebook: We'll typically choose two posting times, one between 8am and 12pm and another between 4pm and 6pm.
  • LinkedIn & Google+: We'll typically choose two posting times, one between 9am and 12pm and another between 3pm and 6pm.
  • Pinterest & Instagram: We'll typically choose four posting times, one between 9am and 11am, another between 12pm and 2pm, another between 5pm and 7pm and another between 8pm and 10pm.
