[Publish] How to connect a Facebook Page or Group

IN THIS ARTICLE

Permissions

Facebook Profiles, Pages and Groups can be connected to your Buffer Publish account. In order to connect a Facebook Page or Group, Buffer will need to authenticate through your personal Facebook Profile. Therefore, you will need the following permissions in order to connect a Page or Group:

Notes:

  • It will not be possible to connect a Facebook Page if you are a "Page Admin" through inheritance from a parent page. To find out, visit the page on Facebook and click Settings at the top right, followed by Page Roles on the left hand side. If you see yourself listed under a section labelled "Admin (inherited from parent page)", then unfortunately you will not be able to authorise the connection between the Facebook Page and Buffer Publish.
  • Users with other roles including Moderator, Advertiser or Analyst will not be able to authorise the connection between the Facebook Page or Group and Buffer Publish.

Whilst Buffer Publish authenticates your Facebook Pages and Groups through your personal Profile, we won't access your personal information or post on your Profile (unless you have explicitly connected your Profile connected as another social account).

How to connect your Facebook Page or Group

Facebook Pages and Groups are connected in the same way as connecting other social accounts, with the additional step of selecting the Page or Group you'd like to connect. We've found the quickest way is to first log into your Facebook Profile that has the required permissions. Here are all the steps you'll need:

1

Log in to your personal Facebook Profile that has the required permissions at  https://www.facebook.com/

2

Log in to your Buffer Publish account at  https://buffer.com/app

3

If you're on the Free Plan, click the Connect More button at the bottom left of your dashboard and then click Page or Group under the Facebook option.

If you're on a paid plan (Awesome, Business, Enterprise), click on the Add a Social Account button at the top left of your dashboard and then choose Facebook Page or Facebook Group.

4

Since you're already logged into your Facebook Profile, you won't need to enter your login credentials. All you'll need to do is click on the Page or Group you'd like to connect. You can select multiple Pages or Groups at one time if you're on a paid plan. From there, you should be all set!

What to do if your Facebook Page is not listed

If your Facebook Page is not listed when walking through the connection steps above, it means that Buffer Publish does not have permission to connect your Page. To fix this, you'll need to reauthorize Facebook and adjust a couple of settings. Please follow the steps below.

1

Log in to Facebook and head to  Application Settings.

2

You should see the Buffer app listed on the page. Click on the [X] to the right of the Buffer app to remove it from Facebook.

3

You will then see a pop up asking if you'd also like to "Delete all your Buffer activities including posts, photos and videos on Facebook."  It is very important to leave this unticked, unless you really do want to delete any posts that have been published to Facebook via Buffer. If you have any questions about this, please don't hesitate to contact us.

4

Head back over to  https://buffer.com/app

5

If you're on the Free Plan, click the  Connect More button at the bottom left of your dashboard and then click Page or Group under the Facebook option.

If you're on a paid plan (Awesome, Business, Enterprise), click on the  Add a Social Account button at the top left of your dashboard and then choose Facebook Page or Facebook Group.

6

You'll see a pop up appear, asking you to confirm some permissions. On this screen, click  Choose What You Allow.

7

On the next screen, make sure the Page you'd like to connect has a tick, under both the  Manage your Pages and Publish as Pages you manage sections.

8

Once you've selected the Pages you want Buffer to be able to manage, click  OK. The Page should now appear on the next screen, allowing you to connect it to your Buffer Publish account.

What to do if your Facebook Group is not listed

Facebook now support the creation of Groups  from Pages (like this). If you're looking to connect a Group to Buffer, which is owned by a Page, you'll need to make sure that your personal Facebook Profile is set up as an Admin. You can do this by following the steps below.

1

Visit your Facebook Page and click on the Groups option on the left hand side. From the Groups page, click on the name of your Group.

2

On the right hand side of your Group, add your personal Facebook Profile as a member. Once you're a member of the Group, click on the Members link, just below the search box.

3

Locate your profile within the Members list and click on the settings icon. From the drop down menu, click Make Admin.
