Summary

Enabling two factor authentication adds an extra layer of security to your Buffer Publish account. Whenever you log into your account, after entering your username and password, you'll be asked for a second authentication code. Two factor authentication codes can be generated either via text message (SMS) or Google Authenticator (available on iOS and Android).

By adding a second step to the log in process, we can ensure that anyone logging into your account is actually you! Malicious attackers will not only need your password, but also access to your mobile device, in order to log into your account.

Enabling two factor authentication with text message (SMS)

1

Click on your profile avatar at the top right of your dashboard and then click on Preferences.

2

Select the Security tab.

3

Switch "Two Factor Authentication" to Enabled.

4

Click Text Message.

5

Enter your phone number, including country code, and click Next.

6

You'll then receive a 6 digit code to your phone. Enter this code and click Next.

7

If you lose your phone, there's a possibility you could get locked out of your Buffer Publish account. Copy and save the one-time recovery code in a safe place, so you can use it later if you're not able to log in with your phone. Finally, click Done and you should be all set!
